5 ways to increase electricity consumption in Nepal

The electricity production in Nepal is increasing day by day. Along with it, the full consumption of electricity has become much challenging for Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). The proper long-term actions must be executed by the government as soon as possible. It also helps to reduce the use of petroleum things and lowers the country's imports and could have a direct impact on the countries economy. From my point of view, I've listed 5 ways to increase electricity consumption in Nepal.

1. Irrigation

As Nepal is an agricultural-based country, traditional irrigation with diesel engine-powered water pumps could be replaced with electric motors all over the country. To encourage farmers NEA could also make lower charges per unit consumption. The per-unit charge is already lower for irrigation in Nepal but still, it could be lowered so that farmers get benefits from it.

2. Induction

The use of induction in every possible household all over Nepal could increase the consumption of electricity. To date, there is no exact provision from the government to increase the use of induction but ministers and NEA members talk about this frequently.

3. Electric Vehicle

The future of transportation highly resides on electricity in near future. The innovation in technology sooner replacing diesel/petrol engines with an electric one. Many vehicle manufacturing companies already had started developing electric variants along with their diesel/petrol variants. Goverment must facilitate and encourage vehicle buyers to buy electric vehicles, maybe with efficient charging stations around the country and lower the charging prices.

4. Industry

Industrialization in Nepal is at its pace now. Many industries still use diesel/gas plants to meet their electric needs. These plants could be replaced permanently by providing smooth transmission lines.

5. Infrastructure

Infrasture is the backbone for electricity transmission around the country. With efficient transmission lines and power stations, consumption could easily be increased.
